Implant-retained dentures Shepshed
A steady smile that stays in place
Implant-retained dentures are a secure alternative to traditional dentures. Instead of relying on suction or adhesive, they are gently clipped onto dental implants for a fit that feels natural and stays put.
Confidence that doesn’t slip
If you are tired of dentures moving or feeling loose, implant-retained dentures can be life-changing. A few small implants placed in your jaw give your denture something solid to attach to – meaning better comfort, function and peace of mind.

Small dental implants hold your denture securely

No more slipping or clicking while talking or eating

How treatment works, step by step
Getting implant-retained dentures is a straightforward process, and we will guide you every step of the way. Here is how it all comes together:
Initial consultation
We start with a full check-up, looking at your mouth, jawbone and current denture (if you have one). This helps us understand what will work best for you.
Detailed planning
We use X-rays or a 3D scan to check the bone and plan exactly where the implants should go. You will know what to expect and when.
Implant placement
Two to four small titanium implants are placed in the jaw. This is done under local anaesthetic, and most people find it more comfortable than expected.
Healing and bonding
Over a few months, the implants fuse gently with the bone, creating a strong base. During this time, you can usually carry on wearing your existing denture.
Attachment and fitting
Once the implants have healed, we fit small clips or bars onto them. Your denture is then adapted or made to click securely into place.
A practical solution that fits your life
Implant-retained dentures give you much of the strength and stability of fixed teeth, but with the flexibility of a removable option. They are often more affordable than full-mouth implant bridges, and in some cases, your current denture can be adapted to work with implants – reducing the need for a full replacement.
They are especially helpful for people who have lost some bone over time, as we can often place the implants without needing additional procedures like bone grafts. They also help maintain the shape of your jaw by stimulating the bone, which slows down the shrinkage that often happens with long-term denture wear.
Your new smile, day to day
Pop in your denture with confidence – no sticky glue, no shifting during breakfast.
Talk, laugh and enjoy meals without worrying if your denture will move.
Unclip your denture easily to clean it and care for the implants underneath.
We will see you for regular checks to keep everything healthy and secure.

Support that lasts, from a team you trust
You might be wondering...
Are implant-retained dentures better than regular dentures?
For many people, yes. Implant-retained dentures offer a more stable, secure fit compared to traditional dentures. They are less likely to move, making eating and speaking easier and more comfortable.
How many implants will I need to hold my denture in place?
Most people need 2–4 implants per arch (usually the lower jaw), depending on the case. We will always assess your mouth and recommend what will work best for you.
Can my current denture be used with implants?
Sometimes, yes. If your denture is in good condition, we might be able to adapt it to clip onto implants. If not, we will create a new one designed to fit perfectly.
Is the implant procedure painful?
No – the procedure is done under local anaesthetic, and most people say it feels more comfortable than having a tooth removed. Some mild soreness after is normal, but it settles quickly.
How long do implant-retained dentures last?
With good care, the implants themselves can last many years – often decades. The denture part may need replacing over time due to wear, but the underlying implants are built to last.
What if I’ve had dentures for years – is it too late?
Not at all. Many people who have worn dentures for a long time go on to have implant-retained dentures. Even with some bone loss, we can often find a solution that works for you.
