Dental implants Shepshed

Dental implants are one of the most reliable ways to replace a missing tooth – or several. They look, feel and function like real teeth, and they are designed to last for years with the right care.

If you are missing a tooth or wearing a denture that does not quite feel like your own, an implant could be the solution that gets your confidence (and your bite) back on track.

When is an implant the right option?

Implants are a great solution if you:

Have lost a tooth (or several) and want a fixed, permanent replacement
Do not want to rely on a removable denture
Want to avoid damaging neighbouring teeth (as with a traditional bridge)
Are looking for something that feels just like your own tooth

Replace missing teeth with confidence

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a small titanium post that replaces the root of a missing tooth. It is placed gently into the jawbone, where it fuses with the bone over time. Once healed, we attach a custom-made crown, bridge, or denture on top – depending on how many teeth need replacing.

The result is strong, stable and natural-looking.

Is a dental implant right for me?

Implants are a great option for many people, but they are not always the best fit for everyone – which is why we always begin with a proper consultation.

You may be a good candidate if you are missing one or more teeth, want a fixed long-term solution, have good general health and oral hygiene, and do not smoke (or are able to stop during healing). It is also important to have enough healthy bone to support the implant, or to be open to rebuilding it if needed.

If we find that implants aren’t the right option for you, we will explain why and talk you through other solutions – like bridges or implant-retained dentures – with the same honest, thoughtful care.

Caring for your implant

Implants are low-maintenance, but they still need care to last. Here is how to keep yours in top shape:

  • Brush twice a day with a soft toothbrush

  • Clean between your teeth daily (floss or interdental brushes)

  • Use any tools we recommend for cleaning around the implant

  • Avoid smoking, which can affect healing and long-term success

  • Come for regular dental check-ups and hygiene appointments

We will guide you on exactly what to do, and we are always here if anything changes or does not feel quite right.

Consultation

We start with a full assessment – including scans and x-rays – to check the health of your mouth and jaw. From there, we plan the implant position and final restoration.

Implant placement

The implant is placed gently into the bone, usually under local anaesthetic. Most patients say it is easier than they expected.

Healing & integration

Over the next few months, the implant fuses with the bone (process called osseointegration). During this time, we will keep everything under review and may fit a temporary tooth.

Fitting the final tooth

Once the implant is secure, we attach the custom-made crown, bridge or denture on top. We will make sure it looks right, feels right and works naturally with your bite.

The dental implant process

Implants for one, some or all teeth

Implants can be used in different ways depending on how many teeth you are replacing – from one missing tooth to a full set. We will help you choose the option that fits your mouth, your lifestyle and your budget.

Single tooth

Used to replace just one missing tooth – without affecting the healthy teeth next to it. The crown is matched to your natural smile and functions like the real thing.

A denture that clips onto a few carefully placed implants. It feels more secure and comfortable than a traditional denture, with better stability for eating and speaking.

A fixed full-arch restoration supported by just four implants per jaw. It is ideal if you have lost most or all of your teeth – and want a full set that stays in place without a traditional denture.

Similar to All-on-4, but uses six implants for added support. This can be a better choice if you have more bone density or want extra strength and durability in your final restoration.

You might be wondering...

Is getting a dental implant painful?

Not at all. It is done under local anaesthetic, and most people are surprised by how straightforward it is. You might feel some soreness afterwards, but it is usually mild and short-lived.

With good care and regular check-ups, implants can last 10–20 years or more. They are a long-term investment in your oral health.

Most adults can – as long as the jawbone is healthy and there is no untreated gum disease. If not, we will talk you through alternatives or ways to improve the area first.

Not really – just good, thorough brushing, flossing and regular dental visits. We will show you how to look after your implant just like your natural teeth.

It is still often possible. The bone may have shrunk slightly, but there are ways we can support or rebuild it if needed. We will check everything carefully in your consultation.
