Dental crowns Shepshed
A strong solution for worn or broken teeth
Dental crowns are custom-made covers that fit over damaged, weak or heavily filled teeth. They restore strength and shape while blending in with the rest of your smile. Whether it is due to decay, injury or wear and tear – crowns offer a long-lasting way to protect your natural tooth.
Repair, protect, and rebuild
When a tooth is badly chipped, cracked or heavily filled, a filling alone might not be enough. That is where a dental crown comes in. A crown fits snugly over your existing tooth, covering and protecting it while restoring its natural shape and appearance.
We use modern materials that are both strong and lifelike – so once it is in place, you might forget it is even there.

Strengthens and protects weakened teeth

Restores normal biting and chewing function

Matches the shape and colour of your natural teeth

Can last many years with good care

Stronger, longer-lasting smiles

Types of crowns we offer
Dental crowns are made from different materials depending on the tooth’s position, your bite, and what matters most to you – whether that is appearance, strength or budget. We will always talk you through the options clearly.
Porcelain crowns – Lifelike appearance, often used for front teeth
Porcelain fused to metal (PFM) – Combines the strength of metal with a natural-looking porcelain exterior
Zirconia crowns – Extremely strong and highly aesthetic; suitable for both front and back teeth
Gold crowns – Durable and long-lasting, ideal for molars where strength is essential
EMAX crowns – Made from lithium disilicate ceramic, known for their excellent translucency and natural look, ideal for front teeth
Every crown is tailored to fit your mouth exactly – no one-size-fits-all.
Why you might need a crown
Crowns are used in a range of situations – not just for broken teeth. You may benefit from one if:
- You have had root canal treatment and need to protect the tooth
- Your tooth is cracked or fractured
- There is not enough tooth left to support a filling
- You want to restore a worn or misshapen tooth
- You are replacing a missing tooth with a dental implant (the crown is the visible part)
We will always explain clearly why a crown is recommended, and how it can help.
What’s the process like?
We examine the tooth, take any necessary scans, and discuss the best crown type for strength and appearance.
The tooth is shaped, and we take impressions. A temporary crown is fitted to protect it.
Your crown is made in a dental lab to match your bite and surrounding teeth.
We remove the temporary, check the fit and bite, and securely bond your new crown in place.

You might be wondering...
Will my crown look natural?
Yes. We use high-quality materials and work closely with dental labs to create crowns that match your natural teeth in shape, size and colour.
How long does a dental crown last?
Crowns can last 10–15 years, sometimes longer. It depends on the material, your bite, and how well you care for your teeth.
Does getting a crown hurt?
No. We numb the area completely during preparation. You may feel a bit of tenderness afterwards, but it settles quickly.
Can you crown a tooth that’s already been filled?
Absolutely. In fact, crowns are often used when there’s too much filling and not enough natural tooth left for support.
What’s the difference between a crown and a veneer?
A crown covers the whole tooth, while a veneer is just a thin layer on the front. Crowns are used for strength and protection; veneers are mainly for cosmetic changes.
What happens if I don’t get a crown that’s been recommended?
Without a crown, a weakened tooth could break or become painful over time. A crown helps avoid further problems and protects the tooth for the long term.
