Dental check-up Shepshed
A check-up is more than just a quick look. It is a chance to spot small issues before they turn into bigger ones – and to make sure your teeth, gums and mouth stay healthy over time.
We check everything carefully, explain what we see, and only recommend treatment if you really need it. Most people benefit from a check-up every six months, but we will let you know what is right for you.
What we look for
A dental check-up is a full-mouth health check. If needed, we may take X-rays to see areas that aren’t visible to the eye – like between the teeth or under old fillings. We look at:

Each tooth for signs of decay or damage

Existing fillings, crowns or dental work

The health of your gums

The way your teeth bite together

Your jaw joints and soft tissues (like tongue, cheeks and palate)

Prevention starts here

Why regular check-ups matter
Skipping check-ups can lead to problems being missed – and by the time you notice pain or sensitivity, the issue may already be more advanced. Catching things early means simpler, more affordable treatment (or no treatment at all).
It is not just about teeth either. Your dentist can spot early signs of gum disease, infection, and even changes in soft tissues that might need further checks.
Check-ups for children
We see children of all ages and recommend bringing them in from an early age – even just to get used to the environment.
These visits help build good habits early, catch any issues with developing teeth, and set them up for a lifetime of healthy smiles.
Noticed something? Let us know
A check-up is not just for routine care – it is also the best place to start if something does not feel right. Pain, sensitivity, bleeding gums or a chipped tooth… we will take a look and let you know what is going on.
If it needs treatment, we will talk you through your options. If it does not, we will give you peace of mind.
Check-ups are usually quick, relaxed and pain-free:
We will ask if anything is been bothering you or changed recently.
We check your teeth, gums and soft tissues carefully.
You will get honest, clear feedback on what we have found.
If any treatment is needed, we will talk through your options.

You might be wondering...
How often should I have a check-up?
It depends on your needs, but most people come every 6 to 12 months. We will let you know what is right for you after we have seen you.
Is it OK to have a check-up without a hygiene appointment?
Yes, though they often work well together. The check-up focuses on diagnosis; the hygiene appointment focuses on cleaning and prevention. We can help you plan both.
What if I haven’t been in years?
That is totally fine. You are not alone, and there is no judgement here. We will just pick up from where you are now and move forward together.
What if I do not have any pain – do I still need a check-up?
Yes – many dental problems do not cause pain straight away. Regular check-ups help us spot early signs of decay, gum disease or wear before they turn into something more serious.
Can I eat before a dental check-up?
Yes, it is fine to eat beforehand. Just try to give your teeth a quick brush if you can – it helps us get a clearer view during your exam.
