Braces Shepshed
Braces have been used for decades – and for good reason. They are highly effective at moving teeth into better positions, especially in more complex cases. If you are looking for a proven way to improve your smile, traditional fixed braces might be the right choice.
At our practice, we provide braces for both teens and adults, with treatment tailored to your goals, your lifestyle and your bite.
What can braces fix?
Traditional braces are often the best choice for more complex straightening, or when precise movements are needed.

Crowded or overlapping teeth

Gaps between teeth

Teeth that stick out or tilt

Bite problems (e.g. overbite, underbite, crossbite)

Improving the overall balance and function of your smile

How do fixed braces work?
Braces use a system of small brackets attached to the teeth and joined together by a wire. As the wire is gently adjusted over time, it gradually moves the teeth into better alignment.
You will come in for regular check-ups so we can monitor progress and make small changes to keep everything moving smoothly.
What are they made of?
We use metal or tooth-coloured ceramic brackets, depending on your preference. Both work in the same way – the choice comes down to how visible you would like them to be.
Modern braces are much smaller and more comfortable than they used to be. They sit flatter against the teeth and are easier to get used to.
Not sure where to start?
Every smile is different – and so is every treatment. If you are thinking about straightening your teeth but not sure what is right for you, we are happy to talk it through. No pressure, just honest advice.
Here is what you can expect from your braces journey:
We will examine your teeth, take a scan or impressions, and talk through your goals. You will get a clear idea of what’s possible, how long it might take, and what it will cost.
We gently fix the brackets onto your teeth and attach the wire. This takes about an hour and does not hurt – though your teeth might feel a bit tight or sensitive for a couple of days after.
You will come in roughly every 6–8 weeks so we can adjust the wire and check everything’s on track.
When your treatment is complete, we will remove the braces and fit retainers to keep your teeth in their new position.

You might be wondering...
How long do braces take?
Most treatments last between 12 and 24 months, depending on how much movement is needed.
Are braces painful?
Not during fitting, but your teeth may feel sore or tight for a few days after adjustments. This is normal and settles with time.
Can adults get braces too?
Absolutely. We treat both teens and adults – and more adults than ever are choosing braces to improve their smile.
Do I need to avoid certain foods?
We will give you advice on this. Very hard, sticky or chewy foods should be avoided, as they can damage the brackets or wires.
How much do braces cost?
We will give you a clear quote after your consultation. Cost depends on the type of braces and length of treatment.
